# API reference

> Authenticated endpoints for Centillion agents and Helpdesk

For streaming chat, agent management, knowledge, conversation access, and
WhatsApp templates, see the [Developer API](https://cntillion.com/docs/api-reference/developer-api.md).

Use the Centillion API to create Helpdesk tickets for an agent from your own
systems. The API returns JSON and includes an `x-request-id` response header.

## Authentication

Send one of two credentials in the `Authorization` header.

**A workspace API key**, for calls from your servers. Create it in
**Workspace settings → API keys**; it is the same key the Developer API uses.

```http theme={null}
Authorization: Bearer cl_api_...
```

The agent in the request path must belong to the key's workspace. Creating a
ticket needs a **Full access** key and a plan that includes Helpdesk; a
read-only key returns `403 FORBIDDEN`. Each key allows 100 requests per
10-second window, and a `429` response includes `Retry-After`. The ticket's
history shows it was created through the API.

**A Clerk session token**, for calls made as a signed-in teammate. The token's
active workspace must own the agent in the request path. An authenticated
browser session may use its session cookie.

```http theme={null}
Authorization: Bearer <token>
```

With a session, the caller must be an active workspace Owner, Member, or Support
Associate. Viewers cannot create tickets. The API checks current membership and
returns `403 FORBIDDEN` if the role cannot create tickets. See
[workspace roles](https://cntillion.com/docs/workspaces/members.md).

## Idempotency

Ticket creation requires an `Idempotency-Key` header. Generate a new key for
each logical ticket. Retrying with the same key and body returns the first
ticket and does not consume another ticket number. Reusing a key with a changed
body returns `409 IDEMPOTENCY_KEY_REUSED`.
