# Disclosure requirements

> Tell people they are talking with an AI and that the conversation is recorded, before they start. Where to put the notice in Centillion Labs, with sample wording.

People should know two things before they talk with your agent:

* They are talking with an AI, not a person.
* The conversation is recorded or transcribed, and service providers process it.

Laws differ by country and state, and some of them ask for this notice or for
consent. Your workspace is responsible for the notices its conversations need.
Centillion Labs adds one sentence on some calls and leaves the rest to you.

## Show the notice first

Give the notice immediately before the conversation starts. Nobody should be
able to use the agent until they have seen or heard it. Common ways to do that:

* A separate screen before the chat or call opens
* A pop-up the person has to accept
* A banner that stays visible during the conversation
* A spoken or pre-recorded sentence at the start of a call

## Where to put it in Centillion Labs

### Phone and browser calls

Write the notice into **First message** on the **Agent** page, then turn off
**Interruptible** so the caller hears all of it. The switch sits under the same
field. If a workflow opens with a Say step, put the notice in that step instead.
See [how the opening is chosen](https://cntillion.com/docs/agents/personalization.md#one-agent-for-inbound-and-outbound-calls).

If **First message** is blank, the agent waits for the person to speak and
nothing plays first. A blank first message gives no notice, so add the notice to
the instructions and tell the agent to say it in its first reply. A model can
rephrase or skip an instruction, so use **First message** when the wording
matters.

Batch calls open with one fixed sentence when the agent records calls: "This
call is recorded and transcribed, and our service providers process it." It does
not say the caller is an AI. Voice campaign calls and inbound calls open without
a fixed notice. See [What the customer hears](https://cntillion.com/docs/channels/outbound-calls.md#what-the-customer-hears).

### Website chat and voice

Show the notice on your own page, before the widget opens or next to it. The
widget's first line is a greeting, and a visitor can start typing before reading
it. See [AI chat widget for your website](https://cntillion.com/docs/channels/website.md).

### Messaging channels and email

Put the notice in the first automated message you send, and in the agent's
instructions for conversations the customer starts. WhatsApp, SMS and other
channels have their own rules on consent and opt-out. For email, turn on the
[AI composition disclaimer](https://cntillion.com/docs/channels/email.md) to mark automatic replies.

## Sample written notice

Change the bracketed text to match your business, and have your counsel review
it. If you use a pop-up, keep the agree button next to this text.

> \[Business name] uses an AI agent to \[purpose, such as answer support
> questions]. You are talking with an AI, not a person. We record and transcribe
> this conversation, and we and our service providers, including AI model
> providers, process it to provide and improve this service and to meet our
> legal obligations. By selecting Agree or continuing, you consent to this. Read
> our privacy policy at \[link].

## Sample spoken notice

> Hi, this is an AI assistant from \[business name]. This call is recorded and
> transcribed, and our service providers process it. Our privacy policy is at
> \[link].

Keep it short. With **Interruptible** off the caller can't talk over it, and
nobody remembers a long notice.

## Regulated data

Workspaces that handle protected health information have further duties. Check
your agreements before you put patient details in a prompt, first message or
variable.

## Legal note

This page is general information, not legal advice. You are responsible for how
your workspace uses Centillion Labs and for following the laws that apply to
you. Ask your legal counsel about your own requirements.
